Danny Thompson is an absolute genius of the bass - "Basket Of Light" is a stone cold classic, and as you illustrate it's just the tip of the iceberg of his varied & innovative playing.
I got to see Danny perform with Richard Thompson several times, both in acoustic duo format and full band. His playing was just as jaw-dropping as Richard's, and I have wonderful memories (and bootlegs) of those shows.
The man is a giant. I look forward to seeing the docu.
Danny Thompson plays on some of the most treasured albums in my collection. I saw Richard Thompson and Danny play a magical show at the Royal Albert Hall when RT was touring the “You, Me, Us” album.
Danny Thompson! His playing makes my heart swoon and mind travel to delightful places. You get it and express it wonderfully, Tom, as always. He's the Ron Carter of Brit folk-rock.
I don't know how it is I've never interviewed Danny Thompson. His work with Pentangle and John Martyn was brilliant. There is so much soul in his playing. And pairing up with Toumani Diabate was such a unique meeting of spirit.
Thank you for this piece!

Drake is my go to when I'm melancholy. Not to lift me, but tell me I'm okay.

If you like the record with Ketama, I highly recommend "Blues de la Frontera" (1987) by Pata Negra. Salud!
Thank you…remember that band but don’t recall this one.

"The Ron Carter of Brit folk-rock" - Right on!!
