Hi Tom. In the 10k title I’ve played at my gigs in the last 20 yrs (the first 20s years were lots of S.F. Rock, Brit Invasion and 60-70s stuff of my age group), I find myself adding Bacharach tunes I recall from the radio of those times which were eerpreset n AM stations, in elevators, in my Mom’s car. Not RBT enough to spend my allowance on but catchy enough to leave on. Always played Baby It’s You since I first started strumming anything the Beatles played. But these past 2 decades as I added many Burt gems as another leap into the adventur to keep from being another solo performer entertaining tourists in a resort town with the same old cliches. I kept pulling up Burt songs without even thinking about it. Granted, making them my own w just acoustic guitar and harmonica and vocals loses much of their grandeur and sophistication but hey if Dylan can do 5 discs of Sinatra, why not. The key is they are fun and challenging to sing and play. While most of the young folks tipping via Venmo don’t know Ringo Starr’s name much less Burt’s, I’m a song guy and that’s the crux of the biscuit. Thx again for reminding us what resonates and/or what should. Take care, my friend.

Sorry I forgot to mention the artist . That would be Maureen McGovern.

When I heard the news of his passing I remember the former post of yours predicting and preparing us for the demise of many great writers and musicians. Bert was on the list and it was only a few weeks ago. The rhino collection entitled the Burt Bachrach songbook is probably the best at explaining the width and depth of his melodic gifts. One of the pieces not in the collection but really worth checking out is, I would say, the best rendition of anyone who had a heart. It’s not the best production but the desperation in her voice conveys more human emotion than you’ll find anywhere.
