Summer Friday Playlist: It Really Was Different In New Orleans In the Early '70s
Just a tiny scratch off the tip of the iceberg....
This could have ballooned into an epic — it doesn’t include landmark studio records made between 1970 and 1975 (among them Professor Longhair’s magical Rock ‘N Roll Gumbo, which alas seems missing on Spotify). The idea was to celebrate just a taste of the activity swirling around the Crescent City at that time — both from the towering and endlessly underappreciated native talents and outsiders like Robert Palmer seeking a funk credibility boost by working with the Meters (!).
And the thing is…you could select entirely different tracks from each of these albums and have an entirely different eye-opening adventure! Enjoy!
